On twitter I get automated messages that say "thanks for following me" About half the time I immediately unfollow the person.
I hate automated messages.
I got one today that was as generic as the rest and the irksome part is that it was from someone who I know. Someone I've met in person several times. bleah.
I wish there was a way to block automatic DM's without blocking the person.

I've just decided to skip twitter altogether...
I agree that those are annoying.... just when you think someone has sent you a little note, it's a snore-fest generic thank you!
